Music
Music students participate in a comprehensive program which includes orchestral strings (violin, viola, cello, and bass), a steel drum ensemble, instruction in basic music theory, as well as instruction in vocal and keyboard techniques. Especially innovative is our introduction of a mandolin orchestra.
All students participate in vocal instrumental ensembles on a continuing basis throughout the year as well as perform individually. Field trips to concerts and other musical events and the opportunity to take classes with visiting musicians expand the opportunities for students who potential for growth and development in music.
Screening/audition requirements include vocal and instrumental skill, aural and oral skills, such as matching pitch, visual skills, including basic sight reading, and creative ability and interest. Previous formal instruction in music is not required.
